In January 2018, there were 965 new bankruptcies filed in Arizona. This represents about a 2 percent increase over the same period in 2017. As always, these bankruptcy statistics aggregate all filings from the Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma bankruptcy courts. Overall, the slight change seems driven by new Chapter 7 filings, as fewer Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies were filed. Perhaps more interestingly, January saw a 73.6 percent decrease in adversary actions. If this trend continues, it bodes very well for debtors who are considering bankruptcy this year.
